Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

What is MFA?

Multi-factor authentication (MFA) adds a second step to the login process. After entering your password, you'll confirm it's really you using a second method. This is usually approving a prompt in an app on your phone. This means that even if someone steals your password, they cannot get into your account without also having access to your phone or FIDO key.

Why is MFA required?

Passwords alone are no longer enough to keep accounts safe. Phishing emails, data breaches, and password reuse make it easy for attackers to obtain passwords. MFA is required for all student, faculty, and staff PCCC accounts because it significantly reduces the risk of stolen credentials being used for unauthorized access to services, systems, and potentially sensitive data.

Getting Started

Setting up MFA takes just a few minutes. Follow these steps in order:

  1. Install the Microsoft Authenticator App (or your preferred authenticator)

  2. Add Your Authentication Methods

  3. Test Your MFA Sign-In at https://my.pccc.edu

Need Help?

If your primary MFA method is failing, try a different registered method.

On the sign-in screen, select "Sign in with another method" (e.g., a phone call or SMS text message)

If you're still locked out of your account or having trouble with MFA, contact the IT Help Desk.
